A Legacy of Sisterhood, Faith, and Transformation: A Tribute to the W.I.T.N.E.S.S. Book Club

Since the age of four, I have been captivated by the power of words. Books have always been my companions…guiding, inspiring, and shaping me in ways I could never have imagined. But in 1995, God took my personal love for reading and transformed it into something far greater than I could have dreamed: the Women Inspired Through Networking Elements Sister to Sister (W.I.T.N.E.S.S.) Book Club.

For two decades, this community of faith-filled women became more than just a book club, it was a movement. A sisterhood. A sanctuary. A catalyst for transformation.

More Than A Book Club, A Life-Changing Experience

Each month, we gathered with expectant hearts, eager to dive into books that nourished our souls and strengthened our walk with Christ. We read powerful Christian literature, works that encouraged, challenged, and refined us. But W.I.T.N.E.S.S. Book Club was never just about the books. It was about the journey, the growth, the connection, the community.

Once a quarter, we delved into deep biblical discussions, anchoring ourselves in truth and exploring themes that resonated with our lives. And beyond the pages, our impact extended far and wide.

We didn’t just read, we served

For seven years, we packed and distributed over 3,500 personal hygiene gift bags to women on Skid Row during our annual Mother’s Day outreach. It was never just about giving; it was about seeing these women, honoring them, and reminding them of their worth in God’s eyes.

A Gathering of Kingdom Voices

One of the greatest joys of W.I.T.N.E.S.S. Book Club was the incredible voices that joined us along the way. We were blessed to have renowned authors and speakers pour into our lives, including Bishop Charles Blake, Deborah Pegues, George Thompson, Michelle Hoskins, Elizabeth George, Roberts Liardon, Theresa Odell, Terry McFaddin, and so many more. Their wisdom, authenticity, and passion for Christ enriched our journey, leaving a lasting imprint on our hearts.

The Power of Community

At the core of W.I.T.N.E.S.S. Book Club was the power of sisterhood. We weren’t just members of a book club; we were women sharpening one another, encouraging one another, praying for one another. We celebrated victories together, walked through valleys together, and reminded one another that we were never alone.

It was because of this community that I found the courage to write my first book, Life Happens: 30 Strategies for Triumphant Living. And in a full-circle moment, on our 20th anniversary and farewell celebration, I launched it as a testament to the journey we had walked together.

A Tribute to the Women Who Made It Possible

To every woman who ever sat in a meeting, turned the pages of our books, shared her heart, or joined hands in prayer, you my friend, are part of this legacy. Your stories, your faith, your presence made W.I.T.N.E.S.S. Book Club what it was. The memories will forever be etched on my heart.

To the authors who graced us with their presence, thank you for pouring your wisdom and insight into our lives.

To everyone who attended our events, retreats, and conferences, your hunger for growth and transformation fueled our mission.

And to my amazing husband, who stood by my side month after month, supporting me in preparation for each gathering, your unwavering love and encouragement made this journey possible.

The Legacy Lives On

While the W.I.T.N.E.S.S. Book Club officially closed its doors after 20 years, its impact continues. The seeds sown in those meetings, the wisdom shared, and the relationships built live on in the lives of every woman who was a part of it.

Hosea 4:6 reminds us, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” W.I.T.N.E.S.S. Book Club was our response to that call, to seek wisdom, to grow in faith, and to walk boldly in our purpose.

Though this chapter of W.I.T.N.E.S.S. Book Club has closed, the story is still being written. And as we continue to read, to learn, and to grow, we carry its spirit with us, forever changed, forever empowered, and forever connected in faith.

With love and gratitude,

Jacques McNeil
